A Colombian Catholic Bishop is tired of his city being overrun by violent crime and corruption, so he’s going to perform an exorcism on the whole damned thing (see what I did there?) by sprinkling Holy Water from a helicopter, which the Army will provide.
Who: Monsignor Rubén Darío Jaramillo Montoya, a Catholic Bishop.
What: “[T]he bishop of Buenaventura will say a prayer intended to purge the area of demonic infestation,” according to The Guardian. “The city is beset by violence, drug smuggling and poverty. Montoya disclosed the exorcism shortly after a 10-year-old girl was tortured and murdered.”
Montoya is not messing around, either.
“We have to drive the devil out of Buenaventura, to see if we can restore the peace and tranquility that our city has lost due to so many crimes, acts of corruption and with so much evil and drug trafficking that invades our port,” he said on a local radio station. “We want to go around the whole of Buenaventura, from the air, and pour holy water on to it to see if we exorcise and get out all those demons that are destroying our port, so that God’s blessing comes and gets rid of all the wickedness that is in our streets.”
Where: Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, Colombia.
When: This weekend.
Why It Matters: Conservative Christianity is difficult to come by these days. Many churches – particularly certain sects of Protestantism – have been overrun by politically correct culture. For example, a Lutheran pastor recently renounced purity culture and encouraged youths to have as much sex as they wanted. She celebrated the renouncement by asking young women to send her their purity rings so she could melt them down and have them sculpted into a golden vagina. Very progressive!
It’s good to see that some traditional Christianity remains.
