A Monday report said that President Donald J. Trump is re-considering his choice for vice president for his 2020 presidential bid, and potentially dropping current VP Mike Pence.
Who: Tucker Carlson is host of Fox News’ primetime “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” one of America’s most-watched cable news programs.
What: Rumors have swirled, according to The American Spectator, that Trump was considering changing his 2020 ticket. There were several reports that he was considering former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and avowed NeoCon Nikki Haley. But now, Carlson’s name is in the running.
When: Over the weekend, Trump visited the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, becoming the first U.S. president to step foot on North Korean soil. Carlson made the trip, while NeoCon National Security Advisor John Bolton was sent to Mongolia.
Where: Carlson already lives in Washington, D.C., but The American Spectator says he could be moving to the Naval Observatory, the traditional home of the vice president.
Why it matters: Trump’s closed borders agenda has been slowed by the old guard Republican establishment. The open borders faction of the GOP has worked alongside Democrats to halt Trump’s progress on securing the U.S. Southern border with Mexico. Carlson is considered an immigration hardliner, and has often exposed on his show how D.C. swamp creatures are working against Trump to keep the Southern border open.
