An illegal alien who allowed his 12 year-old daughter to drive, which resulted in a fatal car accident, has had a detainer placed on him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Tomas Mejia Tol was arrested in Houston last week after he allowed his daughter to drive a Ford Explorer around an apartment complex parking lot in Houston. As the girl turned a corner, she hit the accelerator instead of the brake killing a 46 year-old resident of the complex and his dog.
Initially Tol told investigators he was the one driving the car but witnesses at the scene said it was the 12 year-old girl. Tol was then arrested on charges of criminal negligent homicide and endangerment of a child.
ICE placed a hold on Tol after learning he is in the U.S. illegally. The hold requires the Houston police department to notify ICE before the immigrant is released from custody in order to begin deportation proceedings.
