Illegal Charged with Human Smuggling in Maine

According to The Press Herald, an illegal alien from Mexico was arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle seven more illegal aliens into the United States through Maine.

“Mexican citizen Margarito Lucero-Luis, 45, was driving a rented Chevy Tahoe SUV on July 23 when he was stopped by Maine State Police in the town of Bridgewater, just a few miles from Mars Hill, according to an affidavit written by Special Agent Timothy Taber of Homeland Security Investigations and filed in U.S. District Court in Bangor,” the report said.

The vehicle had reportedly crossed the center line several times, and the Trooper stopped Lucero-Luis on suspicion that he was intoxicated.

“The border patrol was called to assist with translation for the eight people in the vehicle. All said they were citizens of Mexico and none had valid immigration documents, the affidavit said,”  according to the report. “Lucero-Luis had a valid Connecticut driver’s license but admitted he did not have any passport or immigration documents allowing him to enter or stay in the United States.”

He told authorities that he had been living in the United States for 25 years. He was illegally residing in New York.

Lucero-Luis was reportedly paid $1000 to pick up the seven other aliens at the border. All seven were charged with immigration crimes, as was Lucero-Luis. All were transferred into the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Three were reportedly charged with illegal re-entry, meaning that they have been removed from the United States before.

There is a growing problem with illegal aliens crossing the U.S. northern border with Canada as an alternative to dangerous, cartel-controlled terrain in Mexico. Recently, the feds have seen fit to settle hundreds of African refugees in Maine, too.
