Lyft Driver Arrested for Allegedly Raping Passenger

A Lyft driver in California was arrested and charged with raping a passenger over the weekend, according to several reports.

“The driver, 46-year-old Tonye Kolokolo, was arrested Saturday in San Bruno on suspicion of false imprisonment and rape,” KTVU said. “He was charged Monday morning with kidnapping with intent to rape, rape of an intoxicated person, and rape of an unconscious person.”

The victim, a 25-year-old girl, was reportedly taken into Kolokolo’s apartment after hailing the ride-sharing service to take her home from a night on the town.

“Safety is fundamental to Lyft. What is being described is terrifying and the driver’s access to Lyft has been permanently removed,” Lyft said in a statement.

This is the latest in a string of issues for ride-sharing services.

An Uber driver in New Mexico fatally shot a passenger in May, just after a University of South Carolina student was kidnapped and murdered by a man posing as an Uber driver in March.
