House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is still preventing a vote on a bill which require protections for babies born alive during an abortion attempt, even though 77 percent of Americans believe that a baby born alive during an abortion should receive possible life saving medical care.
The Bill, H.R. 962, was introduced by Rep. Ann Wagner (R-MO) and officially called The Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act. It mandates that health care professionals who are present during an abortion must provide the same care to an intentionally aborted baby who is born alive as it would if a baby of the same gestational age was born naturally. A person who violated these requirements would be subject to legal action, including murder charges. The bill specifically prohibits any criminal action from being taken against the mother.
The practice of withholding care from infants born alive during an abortion was highlighted in a Spring interview with Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam.
“The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother wanted and a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother,” implying that though the baby was born alive, it could still be murdered if that was what the family wanted.
House Republicans have tried to bring this bill up for discussion 80 times since it was introduced and 80 times it has failed. Using a different tactic, they filed a discharge petition to vote on the measure which requires a simple majority of signatures from the Representatives. All 197 Republicans signed it, but only 3 Democrats did leaving the effort approximately 18 signatures short.
Time and again we have seen that Pelosi and her House Democratic Majority are reluctant to tackle the difficult problems America faces, preferring instead to concentrate their efforts on harassing the President, his staff and political appointees.
