Young Iranian Woman Sentenced to 24 Years in Prison for Removing Hijab

According to a video made by her mother that is circulating on social media, a 20-year-old Iranian woman was sentenced to 24 years in prison for removing her hijab, which is part of the nation’s strict Islamic dress code.

Rahele Ahmadi pleaded for her daughter Saba Kord-Afshari.

“Judge, listen to a heartbroken mother like me,” Ahmadi said. “You told her to be quiet and I remained quiet. Is this the result of my silence? She wasn’t a thief, an embezzler, or a murderer.”

She continued by questioning the humanity of the Iranian law.

“She said no to inflation, repression, compulsory hijab – anyone who removes this hijab is supposed to be imprisoned for 15 years? Is she supposed to spend the best years of her life in prison?” Ahmadi asked.
