A newly released report by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), more than one in every 10 recipient of former President Barack H. Obama’s “DREAMers” has been arrested.
The report, released earlier this month, says that 79,398 illegal aliens living in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program have been arrested for some sort of crime. DACA recipients came to the United States illegally with their parents — who also came to the United States illegally — at a young age. They were granted a special temporary status during the Obama administration that has lingered into the current year.
Here is the key table released by USCIS:
Exactly 10.38% of DACA recipients have been arrested at least once in the United States.
The types of arrests were also included in the report, with traffic arrests (excluding DUI’s) being the most prominent among the group. More than 25,000 DACA recipients have been arrested for such crimes since the program began.
Drug related arrests, DUI, battery, and assault round out the top five categories of arrests if you do not count immigration-related arrests. By nature, every DACA recipient is an illegal alien, meaning he or she broke the law simply by entering the United States.
Of the violent crimes, burglary/breaking and entering was most popular among DACA recipients. There have been 1,471 such arrests by DACA recipients. There have been 974 weapons related arrests, 587 hit and run arrests, 296 robbery arrests, 259 sexual abuse and statutory rape arrests, 173 kidnapping and trafficking arrests, 62 rape arrests, 15 murder arrests, and 5 manslaughter arrests.
There have been thousands of non-violent DACA arrests, too.
For example, there were 3,053 arrests of DACA recipients for obstruction of justice and/or contempt of court. There were also 1,410 arrests for trespassing and unlawful entry. DACA recipients have been arrested for forgery and/or counterfeiting 712 times, probation and parole violations 445 times. There were also 10 arrests for bribery.
In 2018, there were 10.3 million arrests in the United States out of a population of about 330 million. Those statistics do not specify whether the arrestee was a legal or an illegal alien, meaning that at most — assuming no illegal aliens were arrested or counted in the arrest statistics — that the arrest rate among Americans at large is about 3%.
That means that DACA recipients are more than three times more likely than American citizens to be arrested, yet our political elites in Washington, D.C. insist that they should be granted citizenship.
