President Donald J. Trump was defiant Thursday morning after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced that she was directing House Democrats to draw up articles of impeachment.
“The Do Nothing Democrats had a historically bad day yesterday in the House. They have no Impeachment case and are demeaning our Country. But nothing matters to them, they have gone crazy,” he said on Twitter.
“Therefore I say, if you are going to impeach me, do it now, fast, so we can have a fair trial in the Senate, and so that our Country can get back to business. We will have Schiff, the Bidens, Pelosi and many more testify, and will reveal, for the first time, how corrupt our system really is. I was elected to ‘Clean the Swamp,’ and that’s what I am doing!” he continued.
While the Democrats go on offense, they find themselves in a precarious situation.
As The Rundowns News has chronicled in several pieces over the past two weeks, the party is putting more than 30 House seats currently held by freshman Democrats in swing Congressional districts nationwide in jeopardy with an impeachment vote.
Those Democrats will be forced to vote for impeachment and against a majority of their constituents who voted Trump in 2016, or vote against their own party. With high voter turnout expected in 2020, many of those House seats will likely flip back to Republicans, especially if their occupants decide to vote for impeachment.
