Black Woman Charged With Hate Crime After Beating Random White Victim

A woman living in Oregon has been charged with a hate crime after beating a white woman because of her victim’s race.

“Nimo Jire Kalinle, 42, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of fourth-degree felony assault, first-degree bias crime, second-degree bias crime, and two counts of interfering with public transportation,” according to KPTV.

Kalinle allegedly beat the victim at random. The victim was another woman whose children were with her at the time. The incident took place at a bus station in Portland, OR.

The victim told police that the unexpected beating was racially motivated.

“It’s because you’re white and I hate white people,” Kalinle allegedly told the victim while attacking her, according to court documents.

“Police say the victim was with her young child and husband at the time of the assault,” KPTV said. “Court documents state the husband stepped in and restrained Kalinle until officers arrived.”

Kalinle reportedly did not show up for a Feb. 5 arraignment, and a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.
