NEW: Immigration Hawk Racks Up Endorsements In Crowded Texas Primary

One candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas is making a splash with high profile endorsements.

Chris Ekstrom, a businessman running in a 15-way primary in Texas’ 13th Congressional District to replace outgoing Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX), appears to be pulling away from the rest of the pack.

He has been endorsed by sitting Republican congressmen Andy Biggs (AZ), Ron Wright (TX), and Mo Brooks (AL). He has also gotten the nod Texas State House Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R-92), former Texas congressman and conservative Matthew Rinaldi.

Biggs, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus and one of the most influential Republicans in Congress, released a statement about Ekstrom’s candidacy.

“If you want more conservatives in Washington to support President Trump, build the wall, and reign in spending, then I urge you to vote for Chris Ekstrom,” he said. “I strongly endorse him and look forward to working to make sure he’s elected.”

Ekstrom posted the endorsement on his Facebook page.

The Club For Growth is perhaps the most influential group among them, and posted the endorsement to its nearly 30,000 Twitter followers:

Ekstrom spoke to The Rundown News about the endorsements.

“These endorsements speak for themselves — I’m the candidate who best represents North Texas’s values of fighting for life, fighting for our Christian values, and fighting to reduce the size of government,” he said. “That’s why I’m the choice of Texas’ conservatives.”

Texas’ 13th Congressional District is the most deeply red district in America.

But Thornberry has not aligned himself with President Donald J. Trump’s conservative, America First immigration policies.

Ekstrom blasted the outgoing congressman in a statement to The Rundown News.

“Texas’ 13th District deserves a representative who will back the President’s effort to fund and build the wall rather than another Never Trumper masquerading as a Republican,” he said.

“In D.C., I’ll do everything I can to back the President’s efforts to finally secure our southern border and protect Texas and all of America from the cartels and illegals aliens flooding across our border every day.”
